“Working with Brendan was really positive right from the initial get go. Our room was essentially a blank canvas and I saw Brendan’s eyes light up what could be done in there.
He saw it as an interesting project. Probably a little bit different to some of the projects he’s done before, and a really unique challenge that he was keen to work on with us. What we started with was very raw, but his creativity was invaluable.
I was having some home renovations done at the same time, and Brendan worked in with the builder and was involved in all the onsite meetings to make everything was clear and understood by everyone.
Brendan came up with the design of the room, and the builder effectively built the shell. Brendan knew he wanted to have a fake wall at the front with the screen in and he designed what that would look like.
He then communicated the full complexity of that to the builder who was making the frame. It was going to going to house all of the built in speakers including behind the screen, all of the power requirements and then have just the two cabinets at the bottom, to hide the equipment.
All you can see now is the screen, the chairs, the lights, and some in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. All the hard infrastructure and other items are invisible.
Using the system was a little bit challenging to start with, but Brandon did some extra work getting it all configured for us. It’s all run via an app, so I’ve got that on my phone and I leave a tablet that’s configured to run everything here in the room. I guess from my perspective, there was a little bit of learning around all of that but it intuitive and didn’t take long. There’s no dramas.
What we chose is just one option, although Brendan could have put in a much more expensive configuration. There’s lots of different systems out there that do what we wanted, but for this room and for the equipment we wanted we think it’s the right solution. We felt Brendan listened and worked to our budget.
It’s not a Logitech Harmony type of remote system at the lower end, and it’s not a high-end thing either. It’s mid-range and gives us the benefits of all of the things we hoped for. Just to be able to control all of those from my phone when we’re sitting in here, is awesome. I love it.
There are five or six remotes and if I had to use all of those it would be a nightmare, but it’s all on the tablet, driven off the app.
From my perspective I just said to Brendon, “Look, I just want something really easy. I don’t want to use five or six remotes. I know there’s solutions out there, please come up with something”. He knew what that meant, he knew the budget and he worked within it to come up with a brilliant way forward.
